On Wednesday, August 21, Bombardier announced that its flagship private jet, the legendary Global 7500, has set more than 50 speed records over the past year. Each of these has been set within the last fifty weeks. These impressive speed records indicate impressive performance for Bombardier’s flagship aircraft that has taken the business jet industry by storm.
Overall, these speed records are typically from city-to-city performances. These types of records are typically known as city pair speed records. Some of the impressive city pair speed records that the Global 7500 has set include:
- Miami to São Paulo
- Tokyo to Los Angeles
- Jeddah to London
- London to Bahrain
The average speed of its ten fastest records have reached speeds of over 1,000 km/h (621 miles per hour). The Executive Vice President of Aircraft Sales and Bombardier Defense, Jean-Christophe Gallagher, spoke about the new records. Gallagher said,
“With every new speed record, the Global 7500 aircraft builds on its well-deserved reputation as the most impressive ultra long-range aircraft in the skies today. In terms of its design attributes, unique technological advancements and more, the Global 7500 aircraft is unmatched for its reliability, productivity and style.”
About the Global 7500
The Global 7500 is one of the largest purpose-built business jets in the world, and also the largest private jet that Bombardier manufactures. Bombardier first announced the program in October 2010, and the certification process began shortly after. However, after nearly five years into the development process, Bombardier decided to completely redesign the new aircraft’s wings with the intent of lowering the aircraft’s overall weight. This delayed the program an additional two years.
Eventually, the first prototype aircraft conducted its maiden flight in November 2016. The first aircraft with the new wing conducted its first flight in March the following year. Eventually, the Global 7500 received its type certification from Transport Canada in September 2018, and it received its type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in November the same year. Deliveries of this aircraft began shortly after. Since its introduction, nearly 200 Global 7500s have been delivered.

The aircraft achieves these impressive performance measures with the help of its two General Electric Passport engines. These each provide the aircraft with nearly 19,000 pounds of thrust.
Compared to the original Bombardier Global, the Global 7500 has a cabin that is over 11 feet longer. This allows for a maximum capacity of 19 passengers, and it can fit four interior zones. This is nearly one-third longer than competitors’ aircraft, and includes an additional interior zone than most other business jets.
