United Nigeria Airlines Commences Flight Operations

The new entrant into domestic scheduled air transport operations, United Nigeria Airlines will commence services as its inaugural flight will be conducted tomorrow (Friday, February 12, 2021).
According to Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the airline’s Head, Corporate Communications said: “The inaugural flight will take-off from the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 (MM2) in Ikeja, Lagos state and terminate at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, the operational base of United Nigeria. The flight will also visit Abuja from Enugu and finally return to Lagos. The United Nigeria inaugural flight will be conducted with an Embraer E-145 aircraft type.”

United Nigeria Airlines gets Operating Certificate

United Nigeria Airlines has been granted an Air Operator Certificate.
An air operator’s certificate is the approval granted by a national aviation authority to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.
The licence was granted by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
The document which was issued 1st February 2021 and signed by the Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu, read, “This certificate certifies that United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited has been approved to perform commercial air operations, as defined in the attached operations.” Read more
Emirates to Start Airlifting Nigerian Passengers from February 28

The United Arab Emirates mega carrier, Emirates Airlines, has announced that it would start airlifting Nigerian passengers from Lagos and Abuja to its hub in Dubai from February 28, 2021.
Emirates spokesperson made this known in a statement made available to THISDAY yesterday saying the airline would continue to operate its inbound flight to Nigeria.
The statement stated that the suspension of flights from Nigeria was in line with UAE Government directive. Read more
Heathrow Seeks U.K. Plan for Opening Borders, Resuming Flights

(Bloomberg) — London’s Heathrow airport urged the British government to set out a strategy for resuming flights following a tightening of travel curbs that it says has essentially shut down travel.
Requiring two Covid-19 tests for all arrivals, along with 10 days of quarantine that some must spend in a hotel, means the U.K. border is “effectively closed,” Heathrow said in a statement Thursday.
Chief Executive Officer John Holland-Kaye said the airport is working with the government “to try to ensure this complex scheme is workable.” He called for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to set out a plan for the safe restart of international travel when the government presents its road map for easing the latest lockdown on Feb. 22. Cash-Strapped Air Namibia Ceases Flights

Air Namibia, the southern African nation’s cash-strapped flagship carrier, suspended all operations from Thursday after a government decision to file for voluntary liquidation.
The airline has failed to turn around its fortunes despite years of state bailouts.
“All flight operations will be cancelled, with all aircraft returning to base,” Air Namibia said on social media.
Lawyers representing Air Namibia and Belgian company Challenge Air SA reached an agreement to have the carrier liquidated.
The board of the national carrier resigned on February 3. Read more
